Weekend Forecast: CRCA Club Series
We often wax poetically about the plethora of race opportunities afforded to New York City bike racers. During the summer it is often possible to race five days per week: in Central and Prospect Park on weekends, Tuesday at Floyd Bennett Field, Wednesday on the track at the Kissena Velodrome, Thursday at Rockleigh (or back to Brooklyn for another day a FBF). In our opinion the best part of racing bikes in New York City - the reason to put up with brutal winters and murderous drivers - is the sheer density of the New York City race calendar. And within that calendar there is a lot to love. But if we had to choose one race series that stands out above all others, it would be the CRCA Club Series that kicks off this coming weekend.
There are bigger NYC races (including the upcoming Grant’s Tomb Criterium) and there are probably better NYC races. But from the ease of electronic day of registration for members to the low cost of 12 races for $100 (at early registration prices) and recent enhancements with full professional results and upgrade points there is a lot to be excited about for CRCA racing. And that is all part of the reason why TBD has two members volunteering on the CRCA Board. If you’re not familiar with CRCA, or have ever thought about joining the club to race (or even just to take advantage of the free to members coaching program) we urge you to take another look before the race season kicks off. If you wind up wanting join you can do so here.
